Atlanta plumbing questions to ask before you hire a plumber

Determining which plumber in Atlanta you should hire isn't as simple as just calling the first ad or website you come to. Not all plumbers are the same and you should prepare yourself with a list of questions that you can use to sort them out.

Look for reviews!!

Ridgeway Mechanical has over 500 5 star reviews at Kudzu!!!! This isn't an accident and it took years and years to accumulate.

What to Look For in a Qualified Plumber

There are a number of qualifications which can set a professional plumber apart.

• State License or Certification --Make sure your plumber is licensed in Georgia. You can ask the plumber for their license number and verify with the state.

• Insurance -- Be sure that the propective plumber you are considering is fully insured, having both workers’ compensation and liability insurance. This can mean the difference between you being stuck with any repairs or having them paid for. Your selected plumber should be able to provide you with a copy of his or her insurance policy.

• Better Business Bureau -- Contact your local Better Business Bureau to ascertain if any complaints have been filed against your potential candidate. We actually have a profile at the BBB to show the work we've been doing.

Questions to Ask

Do you give written estimate?

Never, never, never use a plumber before you get a writte estimate. Also make sure that any changes to the work request are documented and signed BEFORE the work is attempted. No bait and switch.

Do you specify the materials and brand names to be used?

Make sure your plumber installs products made with quality materials. Ask for quality materials, often with recognizable brand names that offer manufacturers’ warranties to the consumer. This will cost more, but will be worth it in the end.

In addition to inquiring about quality materials, other questions to ask a potential plumber include:

How long have you been in business?

Ask each plumber how long his company has been in business and if you have not been personally referred, ask for references who can vouch for the quality of their work.

Permits

Make sure you know who is taking responsibility for attaining the permits for work. It doesn't matter who gets the plumbing permits from the Atlanta office, but communicating this ahead of time is important.

Service Guarantees

Does the plumber guarantee the work? Ensure you get a written copy of the warranty before the plumber leaves your atlanta home.

Clean Up

Ask the plumber how he or she intends to leave the work area once the job is completed. You don’t want to be cleaning up after a plumber for hours after they’ve left your home. Also, ensure you inform the plumber that the work area isn't cleaned to your liking if that's the case before you leave.

Pricing

Compare prices, but remember to consider value. The cheapest bid by the small plumbing company ends up costing more in the long run in most cases.
